Woodbridge School District Dear Beecher Families,
Wow! What a great first day! It was so wonderful to see so many returning students, as well as some new faces! The students came to school with a big smile on their face; ready to jump into the year ahead! There is always a lot of information that comes home at the start of the school year! Keep an eye out for communication coming home in a variety of formats; Principal's Messages will be delivered via email bi-weekly, Superintendent Gilbert will send home periodic updates and information and, of course, classroom teachers will communicate via email, newsletters and phone calls! Finally, don't forget our Instagram account @BRSOwls! It's an excellent peek into the happenings at Beecher Road School! If you ever have questions, please contact the North Office between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. A few important reminders about ingress and egress - Students should arrive to school by 8:20 as the school day begins at 8:25. Supervision begins at 8:15.
- After 8:25 do not drop your students off down south as there is no supervision there.
- After 9:00, a parent must walk their child into school to sign them in.
- If you are arriving late from a doctor's appointment, you must bring a note from the doctor!
- Please do NOT park in the bus lanes!
- The latest you can pick your child up for early dismissal is 2:50.
- Please sign your child out if you are picking them up early.
- After 2:50 you will need to go to the cafeteria entrance via the Kindergarten playground and sign your child out at that location.
Of course we understand that last-minute dismissal changes occur occasionally. If there is a dismissal change, please adhere to the following guidelines: - Send in a note to your child's teacher in the morning.
- Notify the North Office if there is a dismissal change during the day. Please keep in mind teachers may not see their email so it is imperative you call the office if you need to change dismissal plans during the school day.
Bus Changes per B and B Transportation The transportation services can not accommodate day-to-day bus changes. If students do come in with notes to change buses - parents will be contacted to make other arrangements. - All bus stop requests/changes, for permanent day care purposes, must be in writing and should be emailed to beth@bandbtrans.com
- This is for insurance purposes and for record keeping
Beecher Road School Becomes Greener and Starts Composting in the Cafeteria Beecher Road School has some exciting changes for Fall 2019 with respect to waste awareness and reduction. The first change is that Beecher has become a CT Green LEAF School. This is a statewide initiative which helps schools become healthier and more green-minded. It also makes Beecher eligible for grants that aid in these efforts. All of Beecher's green efforts will now continue under the new GREEN TEAM. This team is comprised of parents, teachers, staff and community members. Please contact us if you'd like to join. We'd love to have you! Starting on the first day of school in Fall 2019 during lunch, children will be encouraged to eat their food and refuse any single use plastic products they do not need. When it is time to clean up--instead of dumping everything in the trash--we will be guiding the students to sort their waste into the following containers: Food Donation, Liquids, Food Scraps, Recycling and Trash. To help students identify proper receptacles, all waste barrels will be labeled by color, photos and signs. The Food Donation will only be allowed for unwanted, uneaten, foods originating from the cafeteria. This will be organized by Haven's Harvest (https://www.havensharvest.org/) and will be donated to the Woodbridge Senior Center. The Food Scraps will be managed by Blue Earth Compost (http://www.blueearthcompost.com/) and will be sent to Quantum Biopower (http://www.quantumbiopower.com) to make energy. Photo Policy The Woodbridge School District policy on photos has been updated since PowerSchool registration has been completed. The new language now reads; "Pictures, works, and first names of students in Grades Pre-K to 6 may be published on publicly accessible District publications using the guidelines stated in policy number 6141.322 unless parents have specifically requested otherwise." Website update We are currently in the process of updating the District/School Website. If you would like to share aspects of the current website that you like and suggestions for changes; please contact Mr. James Crawford at jcrawford@woodbridgeps.org by September 6th. Beecher Road School is now on Instagram! Instagram will allow Beecher administrators to share special events, celebrate student accomplishments, highlight student work and give you a peek into day-to-day happenings! You can find us at BRS Owls. This is a private account, so you must request access to follow it. Once you go to Instagram and request to follow BRS Owls, you also need to send an email to instagram@woodbridgeps.org and include your name, your Instagram name, the name(s) of your child(ren) and their grade levels. Final approval won't be given to follow the Instagram account until that email has been received. Beecher Road School reserves the right to deny access to any party for the protection of students.
