Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community,
The Halloween sugar high has waned, and the students are focusing their energies on all of their learning. I recently almost bumped into a few different students as they walked through the hallway with their eyes in a book! November is a month filled with many acts of kindness; within our school and in the larger community. We are currently collecting canned goods for Thanksgiving baskets as well as cards and other items for our veterans. Thank you, as always, for the support that you show in these endeavors. November 13th is World Kindness Day and we will be creating a Tree of Kindness to display all the ways BRS students are spreading joy during this month!
New District Website Did you know that the Woodbridge School District website has recently undergone a facelift? The new website has a responsive design, meaning that the look changes based on the device used. Some of the highlights of the new site are:
The new site launched in mid-October with many of the new features and we will continue to be making tweaks to the site throughout the fall. Thanks to the members of the community who provide feedback during the process and the Technology team members James Crawford and Jeanne Ciarleglio for their work completing the redesign over the last few months.
Student Council Corner Bake Sale - The BRS Student Council would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the community for the support of our bake sale during conference week. We raised over $600! The money will go to several causes that we support, the most immediate being holiday food baskets for two families in need in Woodbridge, a donation to the Woodbridge Food and Fuel Fund and holiday presents for two families through the Adopt-a-Bear project. The Student Council is always blown away by the generosity shown by the amazing Woodbridge community and this event was no exception.
Movie attendees included students from Grade 1 and 2, and 3 - and well over 150 - in fact, it was closer to 170 students! We had a wonderful night of laughs and giggles from our audience, who were being entertained by Hotel Transylvania. The funds that were raised will go to charities selected by the student membership. Parents, the Student Council Advisors would like to thank you for your warm, generous, and positive comments about an activity like this for our younger student community. Thank you to Families and our BRS Administration for your continued support! Keep an eye out for information about our next events!
Veteran's Day Once again, we will honor our Veterans on November 11th in a very special way. If you have a Veteran in your family, they are cordially invited to join us as we honor them. Please contact Judy Silva in the North Office if you have any questions and/or if you have a Veteran that will be attending the ceremony. Red, white and blue attire is welcome for this event! As in past years, we will be collecting items to be added to military care kits. These kits are shipped to soldiers stationed around the globe. Please see the attached flyer for items to donate. Items may be dropped off outside the North Office.
Costume collection Please bring in your gently used costumes to donate to the Green Team's Costume Swap! Costumes will be sold next fall to kick off the Halloween Hoot season! Please see the attached flyer for more details!
The lost and found is, once again, filling up with many lost items. Please ask your child to check it out if they are missing anything!
As colder weather starts arriving, I'd like to remind you that our students go outside every day for their outdoor time. Conditions that keep us indoors include snow or rain and frigid temperatures. As such, it is important that your child is dressed appropriately for an extended period of outdoor time. Please be sure your child has appropriate clothing and accessories to be outside.
