Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community,
"Those who are not looking for happiness are the most likely to find it, because those who are searching forget that the surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others." Martin Luther King Jr.
I hope you enjoyed the long three-day weekend! Further down in the message, you will read how our students learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and the important messages he gave our world. There's also important information about a VERY exciting event coming soon: BRS Boosterthon! Our PTO supports our students in hundreds of ways, and the Boosterthon is one way that we raise valuable funds to continue this work. Finally, we are quickly approaching the mid-point of the school year, with the 100th day of school right around the corner! This is an exciting event for many of our students, especially in the primary grades! Stay tuned for more about that in the coming weeks!
News from Superintendent Gilbert We are looking for parents who would be interested in serving on two short-term committees this winter/spring. We need 2 parents to serve on our recently created Board of Education Ad Hoc Safety Committee. This committee will focus on the staff and program resources necessary to address the changing and significant student behavioral needs at Beecher Road School. We will also need 2-3 parents to serve on the next Guiding Coalition that will help to construct Beecher's next Strategic Development Plan. Meetings for these two committees will likely take place in the late afternoons/evenings (Exact schedules TBD)
News from Student Council: Gingerbread in January! Over 100 students from Grade 4, 5, and 6 were actively competing in the first ever "Gingerbread Village Competition" hosted by your Amazingly Wonderful Student Council! The fantastic Leo Club members, directed by Mrs. Jennifer DiBlanda of the Amity Teen Center, were an enormous help and provided non-stop smiles and encouragement. Our talented and motivated students worked in groups of 8 to create unique winter villages. The results? Phenomenal! The use of graham crackers, frosting, and many types of sweet candy made for surprisingly beautiful designs—all completed in an hour! Our Guest Celebrity Judges included: Mr. Bob Gilbert, Ms. Lynn Piascyk, State Representative Themis Klarides, Nancy Pfund, Mrs. Connecticut New England States: Jennifer Christie-Jump, and Mr. Gary DiBlanda. They gleefully awarded prizes for the most elegant, creative, sweetest, and snowiest. We all hope this will be a tradition year after year at Beecher! The Student Council Advisors: Mrs. Kayla Widmeyer, Mrs. Elizabeth Heagney, and Mrs. Teresa Nakouzi were so proud of all participants!
Woodbridge Pedestrian and Cyclist Survey You can help the Town make Woodbridge roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists. In 2019 the Town of Woodbridge convened a Complete Streets team who, over of several months, identified local and State roads that are often used by pedestrians and cyclists and how to make those roads safer. Now the Town is asking for your opinion about pedestrian and cyclist safety through a survey. Please view the map indicating where the Woodbridge Complete Streets team believes bike lanes or wider shoulders would make it safer for cyclists and areas where they believe sidewalks would make it safer for pedestrians.
Data gathered from this survey will form a plan to make Woodbridge roads more pedestrian- and bike-friendly.

Students in grades K-6 took time to celebrate and learn about the important lessons Martin Luther King Jr. taught us. Students discussed that we might look different on the outside but we are all the same on the inside, they found personality attributes that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. possessed and matched their own traits to them. They also created a mural of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Upper grade students listened to (or read) "What is your Life's Blueprint" and discussed the central idea. This is just a small sampling of the ongoing work we do to embrace the uniqueness of all of our students! Quicklinks
