Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community,
I hope that you all enjoyed your "mini-break" and returned to school healthy and relaxed! We are entering a long stretch of learning—with our next break happening in mid-April. This is always an exciting time in school; students are really settled in, classrooms are like families and everyone rolls up their sleeves and really digs into the learning. Worth highlighting in this message is information about our annual family survey. I urge all of you to take time to complete it—I promise it won't take long!—and it provides valuable feedback for our school community. Thank you, in advance, for your thoughtful responses! Spring Survey—Advanced Notice In the spirit of continuous improvement, we will once again give parents with the opportunity to take part in our parent/family survey beginning on Tuesday, March 3rd. This integrated survey is administered to Beecher Road School parents and has questions that cover several areas including climate, family involvement, leadership as well as general questions. This year's survey also contains questions regarding the school calendar and our upcoming strategic planning process. Similar surveys will be provided to our faculty/staff and to our upper elementary students. Panorama Education is our survey vendor/administrator.
During the week of the survey, a single link will be sent to one family member's email address. Instructions will be provided to parents. The completion date for the survey is March 13th. Survey results are typically reviewed at a Board of Education meeting.
Thank you in advance for your help in completing this survey!
Student Council continues to be busy into the new year! While the council focused on the Beecher community in the fall, with all grades levels being able to engage in an after-school event, this winter, the Student Council is making positive changes outside of our building. They have donated to the Woodbridge Fuel and Food fund, helped gather and make Valentine's for Veterans, will cook dinner at the Ronald McDonald house and will visit the Woodbridge Center for lunch and fun with the seniors! These outreach activities are possible because of the fundraising support we receive from the BRS community!
On February 26th at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Deborah Kraemer is offering a parent workshop titled "Guiding Young Children's Use of Technology while Promoting Family Relationships." This workshop is targeted towards parents of young children. Please join us!

This year Kindergarten Orientation for students and parents will take place on May 5th from 4:00-5:00 pm. Parents will be provided a detailed overview of kindergarten while their children visit a kindergarten classroom with one of our kindergarten teachers. They will have the opportunity to hear a story, complete a craft or activity and spend some time participating in free exploration of the kindergarten classroom; for example: dramatic play, building and/or art centers. Documentation will be coming to you via mail. Information must be returned by April 24th. Upon receipt of the required documents you will receive information to complete online registration. If assistance is needed to complete registration please contact the North Office. All children must be 5 by January 1, 2021.
6th graders in Mrs. Smerekanicz' class spent time reading and learning about social issues. As they discussed social issues in their books, they took time to think about fairness, acceptance and power and answer some specific questions. The questions sparked powerful conversations! The work the students are doing will be incorporated into the 6th grade Capstone project. Quicklinks
