Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community,
While Governor Lamont's announcement that school buildings were to remain closed for the remainder of the academic year was not surprising, somehow, seeing the possibility become a reality was disheartening. As we work through what that means: from the details of packing up student belongings and continuing distance learning, to the logistics of 6th grade graduation and end of year special events, it's important to take the time to process, and maybe even grieve. One day, hopefully in the not too distant future, we will talk about this time in our world where we wore a mask to go to a grocery store and were worried about running out of toilet paper as a memory and not as a sad reality. For now, however, it is our sad reality. It is the sad reality for our children too. So hug your kids. Let them know this does stink. That we miss our friends and our routine too. But also let them know that we will make it through this time, and that we will even take away some happy memories. Tell them that there's good in this world. Look for the signs of joy and the acts of kindness and remind your kids of that too. Let them know that their Beecher family cares deeply for them, and can't wait until we can all be together again. Attention Grade 6 Parents The end of sixth grade is an exciting time for our students. The PTO, in conjunction with grade 6 teachers and the administration, are making plans to celebrate our students in different ways during this time of distance learning. Stay tuned for more information to come. In the meantime, we need your baby pictures! Please send a baby picture to jsilva@woodbridgeps.org by May 15th. They will be used for a special slideshow! We'd hate for your child not to be included, so please send in those pictures!
Utilizing meeting criteria guidance provided by the CSDE, the special education department will begin to schedule make up meetings for missed annual reviews due to the school closure. Judy Mays will contact families with missed meetings, starting with dates from early March. If families are unable to participate or prefer to wait for an in-person meeting we can schedule these once we return to school. All meetings currently will take place virtually or parents may participate via phone.
All students with current 504 plans will have accommodations that remain in place during distance learning to the greatest extent possible. No 504 meetings will take place during this time of distance learning per CSDE. 504 meetings will resume upon students' return to school.
ArtsWeek 13 has gone virtual! We will be creating a gallery of artwork on the district website with the theme of SKY! See the attached flyer for ideas-- we can't wait to see what you create!
As J.K. Rowling said, "I will defend the importance of bedtime stories to my last gasp." We couldn't agree more! Check out our district website to find some recorded read alouds. All have been read with permission from the author and publishers!
Read Alouds can be accessed by clicking this link and entering the password of "owls"
