Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community, We marked an important milestone recently: the 100th day of school! We are also coming up on one year since our school shut down last spring on March 13. Both milestones provide an opportunity for reflection. The phrases "a year like no other" and "unprecedented year" are stated often. While they are true, and while the challenges have been many, I also think it has been a year of creativity and discovery. Our students and teachers have worked hard every single day. We are 100 days smarter, stronger, more creative, more flexible and kinder! PTO Book Fair--- Coming Soon! Information will be coming out very soon about our spring PTO book fair! Please stay tuned for ways you can purchase, donate and enjoy reading books! There will also be some very special guests sharing books!
Wellness Update After being in school for a little over 100 days, we have seen how resilient our students really are - they have adapted to numerous changes with learning this year. But we know that their resiliency comes with caring, support, and hard work from people behind the scenes, like parents! So this month we invite you to read the attached article about how to boost YOUR resiliency, as an adult and caretaker. Much of how our children perceive, adapt and respond to stressful situations is based on how the adults in their lives respond and adapt. But providing ongoing care and support for others can leave adults tired and in need of their own resilience boost.
The article below explains three ways you can boost your resilience. The strategies include changing your perspective, finding a way to express your own feelings (i.e. journaling) and finding ways to give back, which can be through volunteering, or smaller acts like donating an extra box of tissues to your child's classroom. When we can give to another person, we learn the art of feeling compassion and kindness, and it feels good! We will then be better equipped to receive when we need a hand. In the end, we continue to model for our children how to develop resilience when confronted with challenging situations.

Our sixth graders were recently visited by Amity Middle School principal Dr. Jason Tracey to share some information about the middle school experience. Please see the attached flyer that contains information about important upcoming dates. March 1st will be a Virtual Orientation Presentation. March 4th will be an Orientation Webinar and registration opens on March 5th. If you have questions, please contact Heidi Gianquinto, AMSB guidance administrative assistant, by emailing Heidi.Gianquinto@amityregion5.org or calling 203-392-2058.
Be KIND! We recently kicked off another school wide bulletin board after reading the book Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller. Students listened to the recorded read aloud and were then challenged to do an act of kindness, or make a plan for an act of kindness, and write it on a ray of sunshine. Check out the picture to see our rays of sunshine spreading joy through acts of kindness! Learning Model While students are expected to either be in school or fully remote learners, we now are encountering students who are at home for various reasons. This could include a self-imposed quarantine, a medical quarantine required by a doctor or other personal reasons. We would like parents to note a few important pieces of information:
