Principal's Message

Sunshine bulletin board

Dear BRS Community,

As you read this, the week has ended and we are looking forward to spring break.  I am sure that, like me, you are hoping the beautiful weather holds and we continue to enjoy many days of sunshine and warmth during the upcoming week.  The weeks after spring break always seem to fly. There is still much learning to accomplish, so our students will be fully engaged in many exciting lessons, while also taking the time to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine!

Student Council Update

The BRS Student Council would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all our families who supported spirit week and the Pennies for Puppies drive the week of March 22nd! It is always fun to see the creative, spirited outfits on students and teachers alike. The Council is still counting all the change that was collected and the final results and winner of extra recess will be announced after April Break! We know we say this every year, but truly, we are again blown away by how generous our Beecher family is! Thank you for your continued support and we wish everyone a restful break next week!

Wellness Update

Spring is here…. A great time to recharge, re-evaluate, and reset our goals and thinking patterns. Having a growth mindset can help you with your recharge and assist you in reaching your goals.

What is a growth mindset?

Growth mindset is the belief that you can learn and overcome obstacles, that progress and success are achieved through hard work, dedication and perseverance, and not predetermined, nor limited by one's abilities. People with a growth mindset tend to achieve higher rates of success, are more resilient, and report higher levels of happiness.

Parents can foster their own growth mindset and that of their children. The language that you use and actions that you take communicate your expectations to others. Your children know when you are proud or disappointed in them, and when you think they will succeed or fail, and how you define success.  They learn from your model and need your encouragement to take risks and to be courageous learners and thinkers. You can make a difference and foster your child's growth mindset.

Here are a few ways you can develop a growth mindset:

  • Encourage and reinforce effort over "talents" (ability is just the starting point!)
  • Acknowledge and embrace imperfections (find the lessons in mistakes)
  • Be curious and explore, develop a love of learning
  • Be courageous and view challenges as opportunities
  • Try new things and different learning strategies
  • Stop striving to achieve just to seek approval from others, but instead seek to grow and learn
  • Value the process over the end result
  • Think about your sense of purpose/s and cultivate it and then be willing to change along the way

Way to go PTO!

Many thanks to our fantastic PTO for a wonderful online Scholastic Book Fair!  They found creative ways to share fun books and encourage a love of reading in our students!

Quarantine and remote learning

We know that many families will be traveling over April break.  If you are planning to travel and will need to quarantine upon return we would welcome your student to remote learning.  Please communicate the need for remote learning with the North Office at asherman@woodbridgeps.org.  Teachers need time to plan and prepare materials, so we appreciate notification as soon as possible.

Townwide event

Woodbridge is pleased to host an Earth Day event!  On April 24th from 9:00-11:00 am on the Library Lawn residents are encouraged to bring items to recycle and reuse including book donations, mattresses, electronics, household items and sports equipment!  For more information, visit this link.
