Woodbridge School District Principal's Message
Dear BRS Community, Recently, two third grade students wrote me a letter noticing that the Beecher campus was getting a little dirty (a side effect from all of the eating we are doing outside). We agreed on a Beecher clean up day! The two students wrote out a speech for the morning announcements and helped to distribute bags. The whole school spent some outside time this past Tuesday cleaning up our beautiful campus! This was an amazing example not only of the power of writing but also of the ability of our students to impact positive change! The Halloween Hoot - Creepy Crawling Drive Thru Saturday, October 30th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm Join BRS community for one of Beecher Road School's longest standing traditions, the main fall fundraiser of the year! Do not forget to bring in your carved, decorated, spooky pumpkins. Online Silent Auction starts on Oct 24th at 10:00 am and ends on Oct 30th at 10:00 am. Cafe update: The students may have noticed some last-minute changes to our lunch menus. Our school nutrition program is currently experiencing supply chain issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many industries, food manufacturers and distributors are struggling with labor shortages to produce and transport food. As a result, we are having trouble receiving product from our food suppliers. This is a nationwide problem, but we are working on strategies to minimize the impact on our students. We are working closely with our distributors and manufacturers to secure both the food and supply items needed to support our school nutrition program. While we intend to serve the posted menu each day at school, it may not be possible until supply chain issues are resolved. We will always attempt to substitute the scheduled menu item with another that is as similar as possible to the extent we are able to do so. We apologize to students who are experiencing last-minute menu changes. As we navigate this challenging time, we appreciate your patience and understanding. Our school nutrition team is committed to provide wholesome meals to your child each day. Thank you for your continued support!
Extended Day: Extended Day will continue to run in November! You may begin registering your child for extended day in November this weekend!
Spotlight on: Our Library department! Ms. Crocco and Mrs. McCollom! Larissa Crocco is starting her sixth year at BRS. Prior to joining the Beecher staff she taught third and fourth grade in Hamden. She is a proud third-generation Woodbridge resident and is active in the community. You may even see her walking her beloved dogs Rafie and Nicky at The Cornfield! She loves scuba diving in remote locations, game nights with friends, FOOD, coffee, anything sweet, and, of course, READING!!! She is a proud auntie and enjoys finding new activities for her niece and nephews. Larissa loves local history, which makes her the perfect teaching partner to Katie whose favorite subject to teach is American History!
Katie McCollom has been a teacher at Beecher Road School since 2004, teaching second, MAG first-year, fifth, sixth, and remote first grade. She loves spending time with her three sons and husband on the shoreline where they live in a historic home, once frequented by Ben Franklin. In her "free time" she can be found behind her camera taking pictures, helping with the Clinton Sailing Club as a board member, running scout events, or playing with her labradoodle, Autumn. Her book collection and love of books and reading aloud inspired her to attain her Library Media Specialist certification in 2019. She is thrilled to join Larissa in the library!
This dynamic duo make a great team! They are working diligently to refresh the library collection, to create a Makerspace, and make the library more kid-friendly, warm, and inviting. Hopefully, the library will be open to guests and volunteers soon, and you will be able to see all of their efforts in rejuvenating the heart of our school! Quicklinks
