Dear BRS Community,
Today we celebrated our 6th graders with a D.A.R.E. graduation. Our oldest learners have spent many weeks working with Officer Lynch engaging in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. The mission of D.A.R.E. is: "Teaching students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives." Our 6th graders shared, through essays and posters, all the ways they will hold true to these lessons as they move forward. Many thanks to our own SRO Officer Lynch, all of our special guests, parents, staff and teachers for making this day possible for our students.
From Superintendent Vonda Tencza
June 13 and June 14 will be minimum day dismissal (1:10 PM) for students. Extended Day will be operational on both days. This will be the last time that Extended Day will operate on early dismissal days.

From the Book Nook
This week notices went out to all students with the books that are currently checked out to their account. Please have students return all independent reading books in order to clear their account prior to summer. Any books being used for classwork or projects will be returned at the teacher's discretion. Please contact us with any questions. Students can come in any day during morning checkout and librarians will assist them as well. We are here to help!
Spring Cleaning? We are always looking for donations of books for our "Free Library" in our vestibule. Students are encouraged to take books from this shelf at any time to keep or return when they are finished! This helps ensure that all students have books at home!
Important information from the Health Office
As the year winds down, there are a few reminders from the nursing staff:
- State law requires that a parent/guardian or a designated adult pick up medications that your child has in the Health Office on or before the last day of school. Medication not picked up by the last day of school, or being used for a summer program, will be destroyed.
- If your child is going to participate in the Summer Enrichment Program or the Recreation Program, please check with the nurses that your child's order and medication are still valid.
Arrival/Dismissal
We are noticing an increase in families not following our arrival and dismissal guidelines. Please remember that it is most efficient if you stay in your car and have your child depart from your vehicle. Refrain from using cell phones while driving in the pick up/drop off area. Thank you for keeping our community safe!
Green Team Tip
Dishwasher or hand wash?
Running a dishwasher can actually have less impact on the environment than doing dishes by hand. Just make sure you run it on a full load, use a low-temperature setting, and air-dry (not heated, and use eco-friendly dishwasher powder or tablets. Also, remember that it's not necessary to pre-rinse items unless they are covered with burned-on or dried-on food. For sustained efficiency, regularly clean the filter at the bottom of the machine.
