School Modernization
The Beecher Road School (BRS) facility is a sprawling and beautiful elementary school campus that ranges in age from the 1960s to the most recent additions completed in the 1990s. In addition to providing education services for over 870 learners, the building is also regularly utilized by an active Extended Day program and the Woodbridge Recreation during the year and summer months, and utilized by many other community organizations. The Beecher Infrastructure Upgrade Building Committee (BIUBC) was established in 2024 to consider available options to expand and upgrade the school facility to accommodate increasing enrollment and to better meet current and future educational needs. While BRS did house over 1000 students many years ago, the portable classrooms and open classrooms from that period have been removed, significantly decreasing classroom space. Additionally, educational needs have increased for spaces for specialized instruction, further decreasing available classroom learning spaces.
Antinozzi and Associates architectural firm has been hired to develop a variety of options for the town to consider including new construction, renovation and repurposing facilities, and other creative, viable proposals. The BUIBC in collaboration with the town and school community, will ultimately develop recommendations that will address the increasing enrollment, educational needs of our students in the 21st century, and consider the fiscal impact on Woodbridge residents.
