Welcome to Special Services at Woodbridge School District

Beecher Road School offers a continuum of special education and related services to meet the needs of each of our eligible students. 

SPECIAL EDUCATION AND RELATED SERVICES

Under state and federal statutes, children who (1) have an identified disability, which (2) adversely impacts the educational performance, and who (3) require specially designed instruction are eligible for special education services at no cost to the family.  

Special education services, by definition, means a student requires specially designed instruction, specialized programs or services, or individualized program in order to make progress in the educational environment.

Preschool eligibility is available for students who are 3 years old and whose severity of disability, based on the evaluation of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT), is such that the absence of special education will impair the child’s educational development to the extent that it is unlikely the child will be able to make satisfactory progress when the child is eligible for school age services.

Current Eligibility Categories:   

Autism, Deaf/Blind, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment/Blind, Intellectual Disability, Learning Disability, Learning Disability- Dyslexia, Developmental Delay (Infant/Preschool to age 6), Multiple Disability/Handicap, Traumatic Brain Injury, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Other Health Impairment- ADD/ADHD.

TALENTED AND GIFTED

Under state statute, students are required to be identified by their districts as a student with Talented and Gifted abilities. The Woodbridge School District identifies students during their third grade year.  While identification of a Talented and Gifted category is required, specific programming or services are optional and are left up to individual districts to implement programs, if desired.
